Description

Seasonal Full-Time, Non-exempt

General Duties: 
Follows curriculum in teaching, guiding, and promoting developmental growth of children, birth to 5 years old, from migrant and seasonal farm worker families.  In the children’s first and second languages, plan individual and group activities to stimulate development in language, social, emotional, physical, intellectual and communication skills.  Provide constant positive interactions with each child to convey respect and affection in a secure learning environment.  Facilitate parent and family meetings within the school setting and in home visits to encourage parental involvement and participation in the child’s educational development.  Supervise classroom teacher’s aide(s).  Travel is usually within local service area with occasional overnight, out of town travel for training purposes.  Early morning, evening, or weekend assignments may be made. Perform all other necessary tasks and duties as requested.

 

Qualifications

Ø  Requires high school diploma or GED. 

Ø  Additional minimum requirement of CDA (Child Development Accreditation) or current enrollment in a CDA program.  Teacher’s hired without the CDA credential must be willing and available to attend employer-paid college classes, evenings and weekends. 

Ø  Preferred:  Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or present enrollment in AA, AAS, or Bachelor’s degree program with emphasis in Early Childhood Education.

Ø  Bilingual communication skills with the ability to communicate with children and families in English and Spanish.

Ø  Upon hire, the successful applicant must provide:  Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance.

Ø  Evidence of no communicable diseases established through a medical examination. 

Ø  Current CPR and First Aid Certification. 

Ø  Must also have the ability to successfully complete a criminal background investigation required for day care licensure.

Ø  Experience and/or training working with children, birth to 5 years old, and their families.

Ø  A verifiable record of good interpersonal relations and communication skills; the ability to work as part of a team, and to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing; and to receive and provide feedback with management, families, teachers, and students.

Ø  Understanding of and advocacy for the Head Start philosophy and the ability to implement its principle of shared authority and decision-making with the families of Head Start Students.  Ability to recognize that families are a children’s first and most important teacher.

Ø  Ability to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to cultural issues and community practices of the children and families served by the Migrant/Seasonal Head Start Program.

Ø  Excellent planning, organizational, and documentation skills required.  Must be able to plan, document children’s progress and health issues, and adhere to budgets.

Ø  Drug testing may be required.
